What’s with Tyrese?

For the past several day, Tyrese Gibson – the guy from Fast and Furious has been posting some disturbing Instagram post. Mostly is about his battle custody over his daughter and how his ex-wife is not allowing him to see his daughter Shayla Somer Gibson. His meltdown is not something pretty to watch and it get’s worst when he took a shot at the 2nd richest actor in 2017 – Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson.

He goes on blaming on The Rock for delaying ‘Fast 9’. Tyrese was open about his financial status and we are quoting, ” I’m not crazy, I’m broke!”
It seems the custody is taking a toll on his bank account and he directed his anger towards The Rock for accepting a Hobb movie spinoff.
Just when we thought it couldn’t be any worst, 50 Cents took a shot at Tyrese after reports that Will and Jada Smith did not barrow $5Million dollars. Tyrese was open about receiving it and goes on saying that his is waiting for the Smith’s to wire him the funds for his legal fees. However some sources are saying that no funds were given and they are actually more concerns on his mental health.

50 cents found this entire drama to be funny and decided to up the heat by posting some pictures of Tyrese and Will in which the Bad Boys actor looking so much confused. Adding to heat, is a caption that reads,  “Wait so 😆this fool just made some shit up. LOL Will like I ain’t give him that 😂.”

Daily Bites (8/5/17) – Seagal Banned

Steven Seagal has been banned from entering Ukraine

American action star Steven Seagal has been banned from entering Ukraine after accepting Russian citizenship last year and voicing his support for Vladimir Putin’s annexation of Crimea, The Guardian reported. The five-year banishment of the “Under Siege” star was confirmed by Ukraine’s security service in a letter to the local news site Apostrophe that said the actor had “committed socially dangerous actions … that contradict the interests of maintaining Ukraine’s security.” In recent years, Ukraine has also barred outspoken French actor Gerard Depardieu and many Russian artists for similar reasons, the Guardian reported.

Joss Whedon wanted to write, produce and direct Batgirl movie

The news may come as a shock given the fact that Joss Whedon seemed well and truly done with the superhero genre after writing and directing Avengers and Avengers: Age of Ultron for Disney and Marvel, yet Variety broke the news earlier on Thursday that the new management behind Warner Bros.’ DC Comics film adaptations are highly interested  in Whedon and that he is nearing a deal to write, direct, and produce an untitled Batgirl pic for Warner Bros. as part of its DC Extended Universe.

According to Entertainment Weekly, Whedon is gong to be drawing inspiration for his DCEU Batgirl movie from DC’s New 52 comic book continuity. The implication is that the proposed film will draw specifically from the 2011 reboot of the character by writer Gail Simone, which launched as part of DC’s controversial “New 52” initiative – a reintroduction drawn from some of the darker corners of DC Comics history that has since been reconfigured, via the DC Comics Rebirth.

Spider-Man movies may follow in Harry Potter’s footsteps

With Spider-Man: Homecoming releasing in a couple of months, we’ve yet to truly know if fans would accept Tom Holland as the latest actor to take up the Spider-Man mantle but given the plans laid out by Marvel for the Marvel Cinematic Universe, we can expect to see plenty of him. The question now is how does one make a superhero movie into something more than just another superhero movie? We’ve had the rogue-comedic aspect of Guardians of the Galaxy, the more serious detective-styled Captain America: Winter Soldier as well as Black Panther that’s touted to be a political-esque/ Game of Thrones.

In an interview with MTV, Holland lays out his ideal formula for the trilogy:

“I think the Harry Potter movies are a perfect example, they worked so well. I’m such a huge fan, as are billions of people, so why not follow that perfect formula? And I think we can do something really exciting with that.”

Hollywood film “Crazy Rich Asians” lands Henry Golding as it’s Male Lead

One of Asia’s favourite TV Show Hosts, Henry Golding, who has never starred in a feature film, will play Nick Young as the lead in “Crazy Rich Asians”.

I think @jonmchu summed it up the best when he said "The boy from Borneo lands in Hollywood!" 👊 📷

A post shared by Henry Golding (@henrygolding) on

Born in London but based in Malaysia & Singapore, Henry began his career in showbiz as a host on 8TV’s Quickie and moved on to be the host and travel presenter on shows such as Without Boundaries, Welcome To The Railroad and Now Everybody Can Travel To New Zealand. He started off in showbiz as a host on 8TV’s Quickie segment.

Besides hosting and travelling, Henry is also a trained hairstylist, showcasing his versatility. His versatility, according to director Jon M. Chu was what got Henry the role. Chu told Channel NewsAsia that “Henry is fantastic!”

“We scoured the world for the perfect blend of world traveller, prince, and lover,” he said. “But who would have guessed that he was right where the book said he would be … Singapore!”

Fresh Off the Boat actress Constance Wu is also starring in the Warner Bros. adaptation of Kevin Kwan’s hit book about the lives of wealthy Chinese families living in Singapore.

The story follows Rachel Chu (Wu), an American-born Chinese economics professor, who travels to her boyfriend Nick’s (Golding) hometown of Singapore for his best friend’s wedding. Before long, his secret is out: Nick is from a family that is impossibly wealthy, he’s perhaps the most eligible bachelor in Asia, and every single woman in his ultra-rarefied social class is incredibly jealous of Rachel and wants to bring her down. Michelle Yeoh is also attached to play Nick’s controlling mother who disapproves of Rachel.

Interview with Eric Ong, Director of Adiwiraku

We recently had the opportunity to interview Eric Ong, director of Adiwiraku. Inspired by a true story, Adiwiraku is about a Cheryl Ann Fernando, a determined teacher stationed at a rural school in Sungai Petani, who found a way to teach her students to speak and write in English. Widely considered to be an uplifting film that not only brings up real-world issues but how to understand them as well. Below are some snippets and excerpts from the interview:

Eric said that there are a few projects in the pipeline. One of the movies is about unity. He thinks that unity is very important for a multiracial country such as Malaysia and Singapore. He stated that multiracial harmony is the utmost important thing that we want to do. Apart from that, he said that he also wants to make a movie that touches on equality in seeking medical care.

He stated, “If Adiwira Ku talks about equality in education, the next project will touch on the equality of medical care”.

He stated that his direction is very simple. He wants to do something that is more meaningful. Eric added “this doesn’t mean that the other films out there is not meaningful”. For him, he just wants to do something that reflects the truth of the society that we are living in. he wants to bring up things that we can ponder upon, things that will make us think twice and reflect and help make a change. Eric being humble, admitted that he is not that great but this is what he wanted to do, something that he can contribute to the society and at the same time feeling satisfied with what he is doing.

When asked about the film industry in Malaysia, Eric answered that Adiwira Ku is his first film debut and he chose Malaysia to debut in due to the larger, more varied audience in Malaysia. Eric also mentioned that the polarization between the illiterate and the literate is large and the contrast between the rich and the poor is strong. Eric has been in the Singaporean TV scene for the past 20 years.

We asked him what made him made the jump from making TV series to making films. He said that he was a film graduate (Eric is a graduate from University of Malaya), so obviously his dream was to make a film. He said when making a TV series, a lot of people are involved with the creative. Everyone wants to have a say with how the story should go, unlike a movie. A movie is a hundred per cent of what you want to do. He mentioned that he funded the movie “Adiwira Ku”. That meant that he had full control. With him calling all the shots, he said that it was definitely much more satisfying than when making TV series.

Daily Bites (20/03/17) – More Live-Action Disney Movies, Stephen King’s The Dark Tower and Matrix Prequel

Not much has come up today so we’ll be talking more about Disney’s push towards Live-Action remakes of classic Disney animations, the latest release of The Dark Tower poster, what’s going on with the Matrix reboot rumours and when Kingsman 2 will finally be released!

Disney is going Live-Action

In recent years, Walt Disney Studios has taken to adapting its library of animated classics to live-action. Some are new takes on well-known stories, like Maleficent and Alice in Wonderland, while others have been more strict adaptations, such as Cinderella, The Jungle Book, and the recently released Beauty and the Beast. Thanks to the success of many of these films, both with critics and fans as well as at the box office, Disney has a whole host of other live-action re-imaginings in the works, including Niki Caro’s Mulan, Jon Favreau’s The Lion King, and Guy Ritchie’s Aladdin.

“Guy became interested in doing a Disney movie and we talked a lot about it. When we talked about Aladdin, he said, ‘My stories are really about street hustlers. That’s what I know how to do. And Aladdin is a classic street hustler who makes good.’ Guy’s got his own version of that story in his life. But he wanted to honor and respect the Disney of it all. We never want to feel like we have a playbook to these things because we worry it’ll make us creatively complacent. The idea of a highly energized Guy Ritchie Disney musical felt like, Oh, we haven’t done that before.”
– Sean Bailey, President of Motion Picture Production at Walt Disney Studios (Interview with Vulture)

“Mulan is clearly an empowered-female story but we can also do something new in this reimagining, make it a little more muscular, stronger, with touch of Ridley Scott.”
– Sean Bailey, President of Motion Picture Production at Walt Disney Studios (Interview with Vulture)

News of the start of production of The Lion King is the latest in the exciting slate of news coming out about the production. Perhaps the biggest announcement to date is the casting of James Earl Jones, who will reprise his role as the voice of Mufasa. The Darth Vader voice actor will be accompanied by one of the latest additions to the Star Wars family – Donald Glover – who will provide the voice of the adult Simba. Glover is currently in production on the untitled young Han Solo anthology Star Wars film, playing the young Lando Calrissian to fellow scoundrel Han Solo (Alden Ehrenreich). Disney has also hired screenwriter Jeff Nathanson (Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales) to pen The Lion King script.

Stephen King reveals the leaked Dark Tower movie poster is, in fact, the official movie poster

King revealed the poster on Twitter, which was accompanied by the message: “Pilgrim, there are other worlds than these. Come with us on the adventure.”

Nikolaj Arcel is directing The Dark Tower, which won’t be a straight adaptation of King’s beloved series of books. The film, which stars Idris Elba as Roland Deschain and Matthew McConaughey as Walter Padick, will instead serve as more a sequel than a retelling of the author’s original work.

The Dark Tower opens in theaters on July 28, 2017.

Matrix 4 will be a prequel which focuses on a young Morpheus

It is known that Fantastic Four, Creed and Black Panther star Michael B. Jordan is wanted for the movie. Now it’s being reported that he is specifically wanted as Young Morpheus.

Zak Penn, who helped write the first Avengers movie, is penning the initial script for The Matrix 4, whatever it turns out to be. He was the first from the team to step forward and talk about the reboot of the franchise. Or rather, it’s a continuation of what is already in place. He had this to say about why they’re not messing around with the original classic, with Neo still existing inside this world.

“All I can say at this point is no one could or should REBOOT The Matrix. People who know ‘Animatrix’ and the comics understand. Can’t comment yet except to say that the words reboot and remake were from an article. Let’s stop responding to inaccurate news. Do I want to see more stories set in the universe of The Matrix? Yes. Because it’s a brilliant idea that generates great stories. Look at what people are doing with Xmen universe. Between Logan and Legion and Deadpool, does anyone want them to stop? Not me.”

BMD’s sources say this is true. The Matrix reboot will follow its own path. And the studio is indeed setting up a Matrix writers’ room that will be used to create not just one but a whole lot of sci-fi adventures centered within the realm of what has already been created. While the Young Morpheus movie is not confirmed as the first movie to roll out of this new franchise factory, it is said to be a concept favored by Warner Bros.

Kingsman 2 Release Date Is Pushed Forward

Due to Kingsman being a surprise hit of 2015, most movie fans were extremely excited when they heard director, Matthew Vaughan announce that he would be releasing the sequel, Kingsman: The Golden Circle in June 2017. Becoming one of 2017’s highly anticipated movies, fans were distraught when they heard that the film was pushed back from its original June release to early October, but now that date has been changed once more.

According to Exhibitor Relations, the second Kingsman movie has moved up one week from its October 6th date to now come out on September 29, 2017. With the change being so small, it should not make any difference on the post-production period. Leading to the understanding that this date change was done to avoid competing with another highly anticipated movie, Denis Villenueve’s Blade Runner 2049.

Aquaman release POSTPONED to December 2018

Have a seat, this will take a while.

Warner Bros. Pictures has announced that Aquaman will now be hitting theaters on December 21, 2018. The solo DCEU film headlined by Jason Momoa will mark the actor’s third time playing Arthur Curry/Aquaman after a cameo in Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice and his upcoming appearance in Justice League. It is understood that location scouting for Aquaman is already well-underway and filming is still expected to begin as previously-scheduled. Director James Wan will now have a couple of extra months to perfect the aquatic superhero’s solo film.

As a result of Aquaman having its release date pushed back to December, most of 2018 is open and it has been rumoured (Source: Justin Kroll, Variety Magazine) that Warner Bros. are looking to fill up that space with another superhero movie, though plans would need to be quickly confirmed as a release in 2018 would require scripts, casting and shooting to be completed by the 3rd quarter of 2017 to have enough time for post-production.

Wonder Woman release date: Jun 2, 2017
Justice League release date: Nov 17, 2017
Aquaman release date: Dec 21, 2018
Shazam! release date: Apr 5, 2019

Guardians of the Galaxy 3 CONFIRMED but may not involve director James Gunn

Director James Gunn aka The Godfather of Marvel Cosmos

Director James Gunn is in the final stages of post-production on the sequel that sees the entire main cast from the first return, and early screenings have already netted a perfect audience score. There has previously been little doubt that Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 would happen, but now Gunn has confirmed it is coming and he’s working on figuring out his role.

“There will be a Guardians 3, that’s for sure. We’re trying to figure it out. I’m trying to figure out what I want to do really, that’s all it is. I got to figure out where I want to be, what I want to spend the next three years of my life doing. You know, I’m going to make another big movie; is it the Guardians or something else? I’m just going to figure it out over the next couple of weeks.”
– James Gunn on Guardians of the Galaxy 3

With or without Gunn, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is now not only just a concept, but it appears there are real plans taking shape in the Marvel offices for the third film.

Venom is reportedly set for his SOLO movie in 2018

Please be good, please be good, please be good.

Throughout the process of Spider-Man joining his fellow Marvel heroes, however, reports surfaced that Sony had a number of potential ideas for other Spider-Man-related properties to make their way to the big screen, one of them being a Venom solo movie. Though Sony’s the partnership with Marvel Studios made many presume such a spinoff was off the table, it appears the studio is moving forward with the film after all.

A 2018 premiere date will mean three consecutive years of Spider-Man-related movies in theaters – which doesn’t include his appearance in Civil War. 2017 has Homecoming and the sequel has already been dated for 2019. Additionally, the animated Spider-Man movie starring Miles Morales also comes out in December of 2018, which means Sony would have an opportunity to wedge its Venom film in while the character is presumably hot — provided his upcoming solo film performs as well as expected.
