Bring your little ones along to catch this in cinemas on the 25th of December 2014!

There’s only 2 reasons you can possibly have to watch this. 1.You wish to see Robin Williams’ last on-screen role before his passing OR 2.You are accompanying a child to watch it.

The “The Secret of the Tomb” is the 3rd installment of the “Night at the Museum” series. Rated as a PG-13 movie, “The Secret of the Tomb” remains a light-hearted family comedy suitable for all ages (especially toddlers). Besides boasting a star-studded cast that includes the likes of Ben Stiller, Owen Wilson, Ben Kingsley, Robin Williams, Ricky Gervais, Rebel Wilson, “The Secret of the Tomb” is also filled with CGI-effects that would leave your child in awe.

Plot Synopsis

Larry & his historical friends.

Larry & his historical friends.

Our favourite museum night guard, Larry Daley (Ben Stiller) & his beloved group of walking, talking museum friends are back for another adventure and this time around, they’re going to London. Things don’t go as planned during the opening of New York’s Planetarium as the museum pieces start to lose control of themselves during their opening entertainment show for the people of New York, which we soon discover is because of the Magical Egyptian Tablet that has brought all the museum pieces to life is slowly deteriorating.

Larry & the gang are then forced to travel to the London museum as he finds out that Ahkmenra’s father may know know how to help them. As he enters the British Museum of Natural History, the magic of the tablet begins to give life to the museum leading to a whole new set of problems. With a little help from some ‘new’ friends, they must race against the clock to repair the magic tablet before Larry loses his museum friends forever.

De-views
(De-views are my personal views in a completely honest manner, purely my own preferences and no one elses.)

Ben Stiller plays a 2nd role as a neanderthal called Laaa, a well acted comedic role that is similar to his hilarious characters in Zoolander, Starsky & Hutch & Tropic Thunder(They’re all absolutely hilarious movies by the way). The funniest scene in an otherwise mildly entertaining comedy has to be the guest appearances of Hugh Jackman & Alice Eve. A rather emotional speech by Teddy Roosevelt (Robin Williams) towards the end of the movie will definitely resonate with the audience in relation to his passing in August.

All in all, Night at the Museum : The Secret of the Tomb is a, dare I say, failed attempt to replicate the success of it’s very first installment. Filled with reused & cheesy jokes that would probably be humorous to children under the age of 13. Unfortunately, it looks like there’s a possibility of continued attempts of milking this franchise as you’d soon see at the end of the movie. Not exactly sure where the lightly implied homosexuality between the roman general and the cowboy fit into the target audience of children but I suppose that’s for the grown-ups accompanying the child. I cannot stress this enough, this is a movie for children not adults. Oh wait, maybe a date movie. MAYBE.
Either way, I’ll rate this movie as an adult so it’s a 3 out of 10.

Oh and not forgetting the dearly departed, Robin Williams (1951-2014)
